Why Dietary Data? Why now?

Policies and programs that seek to improve human health through diet or influence the effects of food systems on dietary outcomes require high quality food consumption data. Yet, accurate data on individual consumption in low-income countries remains scarce and underutilized due to the perceived high cost and complexity of collecting and analyzing it. The International Dietary Data Expansion (INDDEX) Project will address these issues by developing a global architecture for dietary data assessment, which includes innovative technologies, leveraging existing data, strengthening institutions, and demonstrating the policy relevance of improved food consumption data. The work of the INDDEX Project will enable the design and implementation of more effective food, nutrition, and agricultural policies and programs that will improve the health, well-being, and livelihoods of people worldwide.
